Child Obeasity

My thoughts on child obeasity are as follows:

McDonalds, Burger King, TV (300 channels), Ninetendo, Computer, School Buses, Taco Bell, Lazy, Staying Home, Air Conditioning, Chores.

I grew up in a large city (Newark, NJ) in the 1950's & 1960's. From the time I was able to walk to school (I really mean it.......we never had school buses........you just got up earlier and walked to school........high school was at least 3 miles away and it didn't matter how cold or hot it was.........you walked) I was very rarely seen in my house.
I was out on the street from the time I woke up until it was time to come home for dinner.......not fast food......but dinner.
We were outside all the time at the playground, at the park, at a neighbor's house or playing in the street. It seemed like we never stopped running around and playing all day.
Whatever we were doing, for sure we were burning calories. I seriously do not remember more than 1 or 2 kids ever being fat, never mind obease.
Maybe pudgy but that was few and far between.
Life was different then. We didn't have all the wonderful fast food restaurants or the other things mentioned at the top of this article.
There is something to be said for the good old days.

If I Were King - "The Test"

The "Test"

By: Jeff Schick

Date: 10/20/06

Everyone takes for granted that in order to drive a car we need to pass a basic written test. This advances you into the drivers seat where you then are asked to pass another test in front of an official who will then grant you your license to drive.

I think we would all pretty much agree that this test is fairly basic and almost everyone passes eventually.

If you want to be able to sell a house and make a commission you must first take a 75 hour course, then pass a 4 hour exam just to be eligible to apply to your state where you have to take and pass another 4 hour exam to get your license enabling you to sell a vacant lot.

I could go on and on about all off the things that, if you choose to do, you need to pass a test and get permission (a license) to do it.

Why don't we need to pass a test to become parents?

What is more important to society than the proper upbringing of a child? Is there anything that requires more time? Is there anything that is more difficult?

I'm sorry but love is not the only thing that matters.

Do you have the means to bring up this child in a way that ensures a decent education? A home, with food in the refrigerator? Basic medical care to ensure this child remains healthy?

Or do we just want to keep having children that the Neo-socs will raise through their ever increasing welfare state that basically ensures a vote for their party in future years.

This brings me to my next subject, voting.

I believe that if you disagree with my views and cast your vote for an opposing candidate, it is your right as an American.

I also believe that because you cast that vote you are impacting my life and that of my families, with your candidates beliefs and the subsequent actions of that candidates party on my paycheck (taxes), my family's healthcare, my family's security, well, you get the picture.

I certainly would want your vote to be decided on something that is well thought out, cast with a basic understanding and consequence of that vote. And with the full understanding that whatever the vote, you believe it will further the American dream and move this country forward.

To that extent I would not want you to be able cast a vote impacting me and my family if you have no comprehension of who is running for office, what they stand for, if you are illegal, if you cannot vote in English, if the only reason you are voting for someone is because someone brought a voter registration card to your home and told you in another language who to vote for.

The consequence for this type of voting is enormous and will unfavorably impact everyone who reads this letter at some point in time. It will add to the further depletion of American resources and could drive our country into eventual stagnation similar to our friends in Europe.

I believe that before you are given the opportunity to cast your vote you should be given a basic government comprehension test. It doesn't have to be difficult, just 20 or 25 questions on the 3 branches of government, what makes up the senate, the house, who is your states representatives, state senator, Governor, President, Vice-President, etc.

Well, you get the picture.

It may be your right to vote if you are a legal citizen. But I would argue it is your privilege as an American citizen to vote just like it is a privilege to drive a car and therefore to make it extra special, you should be able to pass a basic comprehension test to perform the function.

This letter will definitely create an outcry from all of the Neo-Socs (my word for the new world socialist order for witch the far left liberals, including Michael Moore, Babs, Pelosi, Reed, Turner, Kerry, Dean, Kennedy, etc., etc. have created)because they will try to have you believe it is un-American or it goes against their constitutional rights.

My response is what about my constitutional rights?

What about my right to expect that a child brought into this world will get a proper education?

That this child will be loved and have the opportunities to enjoy life's precious gifts, stay off drugs, off welfare, off the streets and out of crimes way.

What about my rights as a citizen to ensure you have a basic understanding of our constitution, a basic understanding of the three branches of government and a basic understanding of the law to ensure you, at least, possess the knowledge of why you are voting for a particular candidate and therefore, by casting that ballot you are effecting me and my family, so I at least think you should pass a basic test to see if you actually have a thought process, or if you are void of any basic comprehension.

Iran and Iraq

This may sound a little off the wall but hear me out.
To win the war in Iraq, we first need to overcome the profound sense of liberal appeasement and cut & run philosophy in dealing with the greatest threat to this country since World War 2.
We need to have one conviction, and that is to win at any cost. The Democrats have been incorrect on every foreign affair issue since 1963. The weaknesses of the Carter administration has created this middle east mess and the head in the sand mentality of the Clinton administration helped to create all of the Osama Bin Laden's of the world.
It is amazing to me that these to individuals can fly around the country and the world criticizing anyone but themselves for putting the world in the dangerous place that it is today.
I would suggest that by taking down Iran (yes that might mean invade, although I believe we have enough air power to bomb them into submission, if needed) we win the war in Iraq almost immediately.
We have successfully isolated the insurgency and can then focus on the militias who are mass mudering the population.
At the same time this is done, the main funding for Hezzbollah has been crushed thereby reducing them to nothing and isolating Syria to stand alone in the middle east.
How long do you think Syria would be willing to stand alone?
To summarize, I am not for pulling our troops out but possibly putting additional troops over there, take out Iran, bring down Hezzbollah and isolate Syria.
Does anyone have a better idea?
Does this sound better than what the liberals keep saying?
Should we cut and run? Not torture the terrorists for information leading to the capture of more terrorists? Let's give them their day in court because they have so called rights? Lets kill the Patriot Act. Let's vote down the wire taps of our enemies, and so on, and so on.
It never ends.
Does anyone else agree or have a better idea?
I welcome all responses.
